PlayStation’s Creative Tube Station Takeover
I discuss a PlayStation 5 station takeover in Tokyo that blends digital signage with real-world train movement to create a striking brand moment. The campaign is visually clever and attention-grabbing, though the brand presence feels slightly too understated.
Key Takeaways
- The activation cleverly interacts with the movement of a real train, making it more memorable.
- The creative execution is strong and likely to attract attention in a busy public space.
- The brand could have been more prominent to make the campaign land more effectively.

Okay. Is that, what is that? Is that like a tube train? It looks like a spaceship. I'm not a gamer, so is it a character that people would know? I like the fact that the... So I like this video of the PlayStation 5 takeover of a tube station in Tokyo. I'm not going to try and pronounce it. I think it's very creative. Clearly it's a key character that I'm not that familiar with, but I'm assuming this is a key character. And I like the fact that it's interacting with the real life slowing down of the train. It's definitely going to attract eyeballs. It's going to get people thinking about the brand. I think the brand is a little bit too subdued. It kind of reminds me of a British Airways campaign that had children pointing at planes as they actually physically flew overhead. That was done in the UK a few years back, which was really excellent. I think this is kind of similar to that, but maybe not quite as effective and not quite landing the brand in the same way. But it's cool. It's interesting, and it definitely gets people talking, including me. So I'll give it a signs of genius score of three out of five.
