If you are a CIO, heads up. Frontline workers are using unauthorized apps to communicate with their colleagues. 71% of frontline workers say they use tools like WhatsApp or other messenger tools to collaborate with their colleagues and their leaders. 37% admit to sharing sensitive company data through these channels, and the answer is probably more, which is clearly in violation of company policy. And 32% of manufacturing workers say they still rely on word of mouth for critical information transfer. When the survey asked why, workers simply said they're doing what they need to do to get the job done. This is clearly a failing on the business. We are not giving the right digital tools to connect with frontline and deskless workers. Digital science can play a role here, but so can many other tools. We need to take this seriously if we want to take security seriously. For more UN videos visit www.un.org
