Cultural Barriers to Digital Signage Adoption
I discuss the cultural barriers slowing digital signage adoption, from managerial resistance to continued reliance on email. I also look at uncertainty among implementation teams, including training gaps, content planning and screen placement.
Key Takeaways
- Resistance to change and a preference for familiar tools like email can slow digital signage adoption.
- Implementation teams often lack confidence around training, content choices and screen placement.
- More education is needed to help organisations overcome cultural barriers and use digital signage effectively.

These were mainly around cultural barriers. Loads and loads of different reasons came up as to why digital signage was not being adopted enough. I've broken these down into two groups. Firstly, with seeing resistance to change, so a lack of generational buy-in from the managerial class, resistance to that change, and preference for alternative communications like email, which just don't really make any sense, but they are the way it's always been done. On the flip side, the people implementing the systems felt uncertainty. They lacked training. They weren't sure what content they should be displaying on the screens, and they weren't even really that sure about where they should place the screens themselves. This all points to more education being required in order to overcome these barriers.
