Bridging the Gap in Workplace Screen Content

I explore the disconnect between what decision makers prioritise for workplace screens and what employees actually value. Whilst leaders focus on compliance, productivity and announcements, employees are looking for more aspirational content such as learning, recognition and internal opportunities.

Key Takeaways

  • Decision makers tend to prioritise company-led content such as compliance, health and safety, metrics and announcements
  • Employees value more personal and aspirational content, including learning, recognition and career opportunities
  • Company updates remain a shared priority, with both groups recognising their usefulness on workplace screens

When we asked people what they were putting on screens, there was a bit of a disconnect between decision makers and the actual people in front of the screens themselves. Decision makers tended to focus on company needs, so content around compliance and productivity, so health and safety, data metrics, and company announcements. Whereas the people in front of those screens were looking for slightly more aspirational content, content that appealed more to them around learning and development, reward and recognition for themselves and their peers, as well as job board and internal opportunities. There was some overlap in the middle, though. Everyone found that actually receiving company updates via the screen was seen as important and useful.
